Read John 19:28-30
After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Prayer: What did Jesus mean when he said, “It is finished”? Reflect on the crucifixion and on God’s great love for his people. Pray that he would move in our hearts and change our lives.

I pray he moves my heart. Finished is he died for our sins

Lord, don’t let me forget the cost of Your love for me. Help me to be grateful everyday and not take it for granted.

  • Perhaps the human side of Christ echoed the long and difficult fight against sin, acknowledging its’ defeat. Or, in Thomas Paine’s words, “the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.”

  • Rachel Lewis says:

“It is finished.” Sin and death have been defeated. Christ took our due punishment upon himself on the cross, and gave us a way to have a right standing with God. Hallelujah! I am made clean and will be in relationship with Him for eternity. Thank you Jesus for your grace, mercy, and love for us.

Today I pray and thank the Lord Jesus Christ for humbling himself to come down from his Royal throne…to live with us, to teach us, to show us the way to eternal life. He showed us God’s great love for us by becoming the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. He did not have to do it, but he did because he loves us so much….and no one else could do what he decided to to do to save us. Thank you Lord Jesus for your sacrifice, your death, and resurrection; so that we can all have eternal life! Death no longer reigns! Death no longer has his sting!!! Hallelujah to the Lamb of God!
